Energy Positive House Developed in wales Has Strong Potential for India

Gizmag has this article about a Welsh University's design for a home that generates more electricity than it uses. A series of row houses to this design feeding surplus electricity into Tesla batteries or into the grid for common area use in a community, would be a superb idea for countries like India. I am assuming that the energy surplus capabilities of this house are achieved with 3 hours of sunlight a day, for 300 days a year, a standard for countries in the North. Move southwards to warmer climes like in India, and you can think of much more sunlight to convert, for approximately 6 hours a day, 325 plus days a year. This means that the concept would be much more viable there. I hope some entrepreneur is seriously looking at this. A lot of Indian engineering students go to the UK to study - there might even be some students in Cardiff. Hopefully, this strikes someone's eye. Or, perhaps, tesla could consider getting into this business.

If Cold and Foggy Norway could Build a ZEB Home that Generates 3 Times as much Power as it Needs, Guess What Sunny India Could Do

Gizmag, a site that I believe everyone with an interest in technology should follow, has this report about a very interesting house designed in Norway. Basically, the house has solar PVs and water heating systems, along with a rain water harvesting system in a design that captures the maximum amount of sunlight in such a cold place. The pictures show a home that is pleasing to the eye, and that could send a lot of electricity into the grid instead of drawing from it. In short, for a net power deficit country like India, this could be a panacea. There would be no need to worry about the frequent power failures that are a way of life there, and, by merely being there, the home could generate electricity and help other properties in the neighborhood. If the owners have an electric car or motorcycle, that would get charged for free as well.

Gujarat Looks Hard at Tidal Power

Gizmag, one of my favorite websites, has this entry about a 50 MW tidal power plant going up off the Gujarat coast in western India. The company building the plant, Atlantis resources Corp, is a British company which has been working on tidal power since 2002. As an old seafaring power, Britain has been at the forefront of tapping the energy available from the sea, both offshore wind and tidal power. Add the old relationship between India and Britain and this looks like a positive beginning for the future. As I have long said, India has an extremely long coastline all along which offshore wind and tidal power could be tapped. Gujarat is just one of the many coastal states. Hopefully, other states that are along the Indian coast will follow this example as well. There is a pressing need for India to generate power - it is perpetually at a deficit as far as power generation is concerned - and what better than to use what it has available in abundance off its own coasts?

Congratulations to the Gujarat State Government for its foresight and to Atlantis Resources Corporation for their pioneering effort in India! May they succeed way beyond their own expectations!
